American Legion Baseball Lakers, Twins win Sapa-Johnsrud tourney openers

WHITEFISH — Payton Davison doubled twice, homered and drove in five runs to power the Kalispell Lakers AA to a 12-8 victory over the Butte Miners A in the opening game of the 35th annual Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial Tournament at Memorial Field Thursday afternoon.

It’s Davison’s second home run of the season.

Davison was one of three Lakers to total three hits in the American Legion baseball contest. Logan Siblerud also went 3 for 3 while Ryan Symmes was 3-4, which included a double.

Davison and Symmes both scored three times and Symmes had two stolen bases.

Kalispell had 13 hits and scored in every inning but the third.

The Lakers led 7-2 after two.

Taylor Morton pitched five innings to earn the win for Kalispell. He allowed seven hits, struck out one batter and walked one.

Wes Palmer pitched the final inning.

The Lakers (28-15) play the Lethbridge Elks AA today at 5 p.m.

The tournament runs through Sunday with the third-place game at 9 a.m. and the championship contest at 11:30.

The Lakers are defending tournament champions.

WHITEFISH — Ty Wevers doubled and drove in two runs for Lethbridge in the win over Butte in the second game of the tournament.

Kale Moser pitched seven strong innings for Lethbridge to earn the win. He allowed three singles and a double, struck out four and walked one batter.

WHITEFISH — Jack Schwaiger, Zach Veneman, Coby Clark-Dickinson, Austyn Andrachick and Jack Price all went 2 for 4 to carry Glacier to a victory in the final game of the tournament on opening day.

Veneman finished with three RBIs. Clark-Dickinson drove in two runners and doubled.

Glacier did all of its scoring in two innings, scoring seven times in the fourth and adding three more in the fifth.

Glacier (25-14) plays the final game again tonight at 7:30 versus the Butte Miners A.
