Human remains found near Rose Crossing in Kalispell have been positively identified as Corey Michael Flannigan, a Spokane area man who went missing two years ago, according to a press release issued Tuesday morning by the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office.

Flannigan was reported missing in May 2017, and was last heard from on May 2, 2017. After his vehicle was found wrecked on Rose Crossing on May 4 that year, a search was launched but Flannigan was not found at that time.

On April 4 this year a person reported finding what he believed to be human remains in a wooded area near his home off Rose Crossing. The remains were found north of Flannigan’s vehicle, outside of the search area.

Flannigan was 26 when he left Otis Orchards, Washington, to assist a friend in Montana. The car he was driving was reported stolen, according to an Associated Press article.

According to a social media post by Flannigan’s family at the time, he last told his family he would be checking into the Red Lion Hotel in Kalispell. They also claimed he didn’t steal the car — it was a rental, according to an earlier Daily Inter Lake report.

The case is currently under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.
