Coach of the Year honors for Munro, Dryden, Schulz
Three Flathead Valley high school coaches were named Montana Coaches Association Coach of the Year for their respective spring sports as voted by their peers, all MCA members.
For boys tennis, Josh Munro of Glacier was selected as Coach of the Year for Class AA. Munro coached Rory Smith to a state title and Glacier to a fourth place finish at the AA tournament last month in Great Falls.
Patrick Dryden of Whitefish was named Class A girls tennis Coach of the Year. At the Class A state tournament this year in Kalispell, Whitefish won the team trophy and the girls doubles (Olivia Potthoff and Aubrey Hanks) and singles titles (Gacie Smyley).
In girls track and field, Class A Coach of the year was Whitefish’s Derek Schulz. Whitefish won its first state title in 35 years on May 25th in Laurel. Mikenna Ells won the 400 and WHS placed first in the 400 and 1,600 relays.
All coaches will be honored at the MCA Awards Program on Aug. 1, which takes place during the MCA All-Sport Coaches Clinic at the C.M. Russell High School Auditorium in Great Falls.
