Morley 11th in 10,000 at NCAA outdoor track

AUSTIN, Texas — Colorado junior Makena Morley (Bigfork) finished 11th for the second year in a row in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA Division I outdoor track and field championships on Thursday evening at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Morley was clocked in 33 minutes, 39.27 seconds.

Weini Kelati of New Mexico finished first (33:10.84)

By placing 11th, Morley earns second-team all-America honors.

There were 24 runners in the 10,000 final, two did not finish. Twelve finished under 34 minutes.

Morley will run the 5,000 on Saturday, the final day of the meet.

Montana senior Hana Feilzer (Missoula Big Sky) was 17th in the hammer throw (203-6). Camryn Rogers of California had the winning effort (234-7).

San Francisco senior Sadi Henderson (Corvallis) finished fifth in the third heat and was 12th overall in the 800 (2:04.56). Nia Akins of Penn had the top time in the first heat, and overall (2:02.88).

On Wednesday, University of Washington junior Chase Smith (Helena High) tied for 15th in the pole vault (17-6 ½). Winning the event was Chris Nilsen of South Dakota (19-6 ¼).

Navy sophomore Simon Petsch (Billings West) ran the second leg on the 1,600 relay team that finished 19th (3:09.97) in a qualifying heat. Texas A&M had the top time (3:01.26).
