Woody Weekend

The Big Sky Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society presents Whitefish Woody Weekend VIII this weekend at The Lodge at Whitefish Lake.

The premier event attracts award-winning classic wood boats from across the Pacific Northwest, California and Florida.

Friday evening features a cruise/parade around Whitefish Lake.

The boats will be on public display at The Lodge at Whitefish Lake from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited to walk out on the docks and visit with the boat owners. There will also be hourly drawings for a free classic boat ride throughout the day.

Sunday morning features a morning poker run with the boats out on the lake followed by a barbecue on the beach at The Lodge for event participants.

Birding field trip

The Flathead Audubon Society hosts a birding field trip from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday to explore the Swan Refuge wetlands and forests nearby. The group will be walking out onto the wet refuge so knee-high boots are highly recommended,

Family fly fishing

Kalispell Parks and Recreation is offering a family fly-fishing experience from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Glacier Outdoor Center, 12400 U.S. 2. E, in West Glacier. Geared for families with children ages 7 and up or beginners to fly fishing, professional guides will instruct on the center’s private ponds. The cost is $39 per person. ‘Soup’ Wood fundraiser

A fundraiser for Marcelle “Soup” Wood, who is battling pancreatic cancer, takes place Saturday at SunRift Beer Company, 55 First Ave. WN, in Kalispell.

Wood was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April. He has worked as a lift operator at Blacktail Mountain Ski Area, bar-tended at Tamarack Brewery and worked as the food and beverage manager at Mackenzie River Pizza North in Kalispell.

A full day of outdoor music is planned:

- Noon to 1 p.m. — Ken Sedardahl from Kenny James Miller Band

- 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. — Luke Lautaret Project from Marshall Catch

- 4 to 6 p.m. — Bird Hop featuring Alex Hogan

- 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. — Headliner - Pump Alley

All proceeds from beer sales will be donated to the Wood family from the entire day and employees are working for free.

A silent auction and raffle includes fly fishing trips, outdoor adventures, custom kegerator, beer-for-a-year and more. To donate items, call Arin Lever at 406-890-9767.

Southerners Gatherin’

The 23rd annual Flathead Southerners Catfish Fry & Gatherin’ is Sunday at Vista Linda Pavilion, 240 Boon Road, in Somers. Everyone is welcome.

A social hour starts at 4:30 p.m. The all-you-can-eat Southern buffet starts at 5:30 p.m. and features fried catfish, hushpuppies, Cajun chicken and gumbo, fried gizzards, okra and pickles, jambalaya, cornbread, fruit cobbler, and sweet tea and lemonade.

The cost for adults is $22; children under 13, cost $1 per year.

New Orleans hurricanes, Southern mint juleps and Georgia peach sangria will also be available, along with great prizes.

A raffle and silent auction will be held at 6:15 p.m. and proceeds will benefit A Ray of Home and Peggy’s House women’s and children’s shelter.
