About 350 students from 14 schools picked up pencils and hit the calculators to compete in the Northwest regional Montana Council of Teachers of Mathematics math contest on March 12.

Participating schools brought high school and middle school students who took a combination of individual and team tests during the annual competition held at Flathead Valley Community College.

With these mathletes, the difference between first and second place is typically a matter of a few points and ties are not unusual.

Schools with the most top scorers were recognized at the middle school and high school levels. This recognition went to — Kalispell Middle School and Columbia Falls Jr. High and to Glacier High School and Whitefish High School. Two $200 scholarships were awarded at the high school level to the top male and female. Scholarships went to Flathead High School’s Tanis Hadwin and Whitefish High School’s Regan Tintzman.

Graphing calculators were awarded to the eighth- and 11th-grader with the highest percentage of correct answers, which was Ethan Bay of Kalispell Middle School and Jessica Henson of Whitefish High School.

Following are top individual and team results by grade level. Ties are reflected.
