Whitefish relocated boat inspection station

In partnership with Whitefish Lake Institute, the city of Whitefish has relocated Whitefish’s aquatic invasive species prevention and decontamination to a location closer to Whitefish Lake.

The new inspection station is now a permanent site at the city’s boat parking lot at the corner of Edgewood Place and Washington Avenue near City Beach.

It was housed at Whitefish Marine and Powersports in 2017 and at Don K Whitefish last year.

Improvements to the station will include fencing, drainage and a storage building on the east side of the lot. Although the station opened May 1, the city expects the improvements will take place as funding and time allow during the summer season, according to a press release from the city of Whitefish.

“We ask boaters to be patient as we work to make improvements to this permanent location,” the release said.

Preventative hot washes and decontaminations are required, whether or not you have been inspected at another station, on the following watercraft: those with ballast tanks or bags, boats that have been in a mussel infested waterway in the last 30 days or have standing water and watercraft inspectors deem too dirty to inspect.

Station hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in May and September, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. June through August. There will be extended hours during Labor Day and Memorial Day weekends.
