The Glacier Institute has recently purchased the former Whitefish Credit Union building at 320 Nucleus Ave. in Columbia Falls.

The Columbia Falls Chamber of Commerce and the Glacier Institute invite the public to a ribbon cutting to celebrate the purchase of this building from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. May 22. The ribbon cutting will be at 6 p.m. Live music and refreshments will be provided.

The nonprofit Glacier Institute was founded in 1983. Its mission is to serve adults and children, emphasizing field-based learning experiences with an objective and science-based understanding of the ecology of the Crown of the Continent ecosystem.

Celebration focused on Flathead River conservation

Celebrate the longest day of the year and support the Flathead River Conservation Project at a Summer Solstice Party on Friday, June 21.

Sponsored by Flathead Land Trust and the Flathead Lakers, the event will be held at a historic barn at the Hormuth’s Rivers End Ranch on the North Shore of Flathead Lake.

Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. There will be live music by Mike Murray and Chris Krager, and Somers Bay Cafe will provide food. Beer and wine from the Mission Mountain Winery will be available at a cash bar.

There will be a short program about the Flathead River Conservation Project. The project will protect 155 acres with important wetlands and riparian areas along a third of a mile of the Flathead River.

Help protect this valuable land during a live fundraiser and have the chance to purchase one of eight wooden paddles hand painted by local artists in which all proceeds go to the Flathead River Conservation Project.

Service aims to help C-Falls teens with job searches

ImagineIF Libraries recently completed a needs assessment for teens in Columbia Falls.

The project assessed the opportunities and needs for Columbia Falls-area teens in order to design and deliver high-impact teen services. A needs assessment team at ImagineIF conducted interviews with individuals that work with teens in Columbia Falls, surveyed ImagineIF staff, and interviewed teens in focus groups. Their findings revealed that Columbia Falls teens need public gathering spaces that provide opportunities to create, collaborate and develop relationships with caring adults, and build social-emotional skills. The team also identified a need for access to job-skill development and career coaching for the emerging workforce.

As a result of this research, a partnership between ImagineIF Columbia Falls and Job Service Kalispell was formed. Starting May 21, Job Service Kalispell staff will provide job assistance tailored to meet the needs of teens at ImagineIF Library in Columbia Falls. Those seeking job assistance can book a time with a Job Service staff by filling out the “Path Finder: Your Next Career Move” form at www.imagineiflibraries.org/jobservice. Drop-in Job Service coaching will be available in fall 2019. While this service is designed for the young workforce, it will be open to everyone in Columbia Falls.

The public is invited to a launch party to celebrate this new service on from 4 to 6 p.m. May 21 at the Columbia Falls library.
