Herbert Raymond Weed, 78, died at his home in Soldiers Meadow, ldaho, on May 16, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Herb was born Oct. 23, 1940, in Kalispell to Elmer and Lois (Butterfield) Weed. Herb graduated from Bigfork High School in 1958 and then moved to The Dalles, Oregon, where he met and married Trudy Buffington on Feb. 14, 1960. From this 49-year marriage came two children, Darla Rene Weed, born in Kalispell on Jan. 8, 1963, and Herbert Raymond Weed Jr., born Oct. 3, 1964, in The Dalles. Herb worked at Martin-Marietta Aluminum Plant in The Dalles until his retirement in 2002.

Returning to Bigfork, they built a home in Ferndale on the Swan River, where Herb ran a snowmobile repair shop for five years until they moved to Lewiston, ldaho, where Trudy passed away Sept. 30, 2009, just four months short of their 50-year marriage.

On Sept. 15, 2013, Herb found love again and married Edna Smith, who now survives him at their beloved mountain home in Soldiers Meadow near Winchester, ldaho.

Other survivors include his daughter, Darla, of Bigfork; his son, Herbie Weed (Sandy), of The Dalles; his sister, Darlene Smith, (Doug), and nephew Jeff Eickert of Bigfork; three granddaughters, Lynsi, Carol and Jessica; one grandson, Beau; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Herb is also survived by stepchildren, Doug, Allen, Donald, David, Dennis, Duane, Darrell and Darla and families.

Herb was loved and respected by everyone he met during his many years of working, boat racing, car sports, snowmobiles and ATVs.

Per Herb’s request there will be no services. There will be a family burial at Lone Pine Cemetery in Bigfork at a later date.
