A camper was destroyed and a home was damaged in a fire Sunday night in Columbia Falls, but no one was injured.

Fire Chief Rick Hagen said the call for a camper fire at 155 First St. W. came in about 9:55 p.m. The camper, which was adjacent to the house, caught the side of the home on fire, blowing out the windows in the bathroom and a living room.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though Hagen noted a person had been living in the 1979 Nomad camper, which had an electrical hookup and was winterized. The person living in the camper wasn’t home at the time of the fire.

The bedroom and the bathroom of the home had some damage Hagen said, but were repairable. The camper was flattened by the fire.

Firefighters were off the scene about 12:30 p.m. Hagen said. The family is being assisted by the Red Cross and they did have homeowners insurance, he said.
