Raymond Earl Sherlock, 92

Raymond Earl Sherlock, 92, passed away at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls on Nov. 12, 2019.

Raymond was born on Jan, 1, 1927, in Wood, South Dakota, to Clifford Sherlock and Betsy Galentine. He was raised in Wood, where he attended grade school and graduated high school. Immediately after graduation he and a friend left for Chicago to enlist in the Army, becoming a paratrooper with the 182nd Airborne Unit. Raymond married Naomi Hastie in Amarillo, Texas, in 1947 and they were married 40 years. They divorced and later Raymond married Joesephene “Jo” Newman.

After moving to Whitefish from Texas in 1954 with his wife and daughter to buy his parents’ farm, he worked at Safeway as a butcher. In 1955 he started his career at the Anaconda Aluminum Company, retiring in 1989.

Raymond was a member of the Assembly of God Church, the Masons and the Eagles. He enjoyed farming, singing, telling jokes, poetry, bowling and playing horseshoes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo; brothers, Don and Gale; sisters, Mildred Strom and Dorothy Schmidt; and daughter, Cindy Martin.

He is survived by son, Richard (Dona) Sherlock; stepchildren, Ellen Barge, Steve Reel and Kathy Longstreet, brother, Lyle Sherlock; sister, Elna Rudd; and numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Nov. 16 at the Montana Veterans Home Cemetery in Columbia Falls.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Raymond Sherlock to United Veterans of the Flathead Valley, 662 Rock Drive, Kalispell, MT 59901.
