Kalispell leaf collection runs through Nov. 15

| October 17, 2019 4:00 AM

The Kalispell Public Works Department will be collecting leaves from through Nov. 15. An announcement about the leaf collection emphasized they will not collect leaves outside of this time-frame.

To make sure leaves are picked up, residents should have leaves ready for collection at the beginning of the month-long window. Public Works does not have a set timeline for when they will collect leaves in particular areas.

In order to have leaves collected, they should be raked onto the street approximately two feet away from the curb. Piles should be free of rocks, dirt, cans, bottles, branches and other “items of this nature” because they “may cause bodily injury and damage to machinery.” Bagged leaves will be removed by alley cleanup crews from the alleys behind residences.

The announcement explained, “The window of opportunity for leaf collection is relatively narrow from the time leaves fall to when snow arrives.” It continued, “Unpredictable leaf volumes and weather conditions make it not possible to know when areas will receive collection,” and the season is subject to change due to these unpredictable conditions.
