Former Kila resident Sabrina Jordan, 17, is one of eight finalists in Hawaii’s 2019 Island Idol competition, in which the vocalist with the most online votes will move on to audition for American Idol producers in Los Angeles.

Sabrina’s family moved to the Flathead Valley when she was 2. She attended local Montessori schools and later was homeschooled by her grandmother, an accomplished pianist, according to Sabrina’s mother, Dolly Foley, who spoke to the Inter Lake by phone from Hawaii on Thursday.

Foley said her daughter has been surrounded by music her entire life, and she discovered her daughter’s musical ability not long after they moved to the Kila area. As she was driving Sabrina to school, she heard her daughter, then not more than 2 years old, sing a “pitch perfect” rendition of “You Are My Sunshine.”

The family moved to Hawaii in 2011 when an opportunity arose for Foley. Sabrina is a senior at Kalani High School in Honolulu.

To listen to Sabrina’s vocal entry, a rendition of “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi, go to the KITV station’s website at kitv.com/idol. Participants can vote online for their favorite contestant. The deadline to vote is Saturday, Oct. 26, and the winner will be announced Oct. 29.
