Flathead's Mercer cards 78 to lead Butte Invite golf
BUTTE — Marcella Mercer continues to set the pace for girls golf in Class AA as the Flathead star shot an opening round 78 to top the leader board at the Butte Invitational on Wednesday.
Kodie Hoagland of Butte and Cora Rosanova of Bozeman are two shots back heading into today’s final round.
Glacier’s Alana Griffin and Jillian Wynne of Flathead are in a three-way tie for ninth place with 91s.
Bozeman leads the team standings with a 352 score. Butte, 361, is second. Flathead, 410, and Glacier, 418, are fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Verge brothers of Bozeman, Justus and Jordan, shot 72 and 73 respectively for low rounds on the boys side.
Nine golfers broke 80, including Tyler Avery who shot 79. He is currently in seventh place.
Ezra Epperly had the best round for Flathead with an 84. He is in a five-way tie for 14th.
Bozeman has the best team score with a 304 total. Helena Capital, 326, is second. Glacier, 336, is holding down fourth place with Flathead, 363, seventh.
