Flathead boys, Glacier girls nab crosstown wins

Eric Gardner scored in the 53rd minute to break a tie and help the Flathead Braves beat the Glacier Wolfpack 5-2 in a Western AA crosstown clash at Legends Stadium on Thursday.

Gardner also scored in the 80th minute.

“I was really proud of how hard our players played,” Flathead (2-0) coach Zach Brenneman said. “We didn’t have the best start but they were able to regroup and finish the game on a good note. I was really proud of how hard they worked.”

Tied 1-1 after 40, Zane Elliott scored his second goal of the game to give Glacier a 2-1 lead at 43:00. Flathead’s Finn Nadeau tied it four minutes later. Jalen Hawes added a goal at 77:00.

“They’re a very good team, very dangerous,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said. “There was good energy on both sides. Looking forward to learning from this one.”

Glacier has a quick turnaround with games at Butte at 3 (girls) and 5 p.m. (boys) today.

Glacier scored three goals in the second half to edge the Flathead Bravettes in a Western AA crosstown game.

The Wolfpack improves to 1-0-1.

Two goals were scored on free kicks by Kenzie Williams and Emily Cleveland.

Cleveland also earned an assist on Micah Hicketheir’s goal.

“I’m so happy with the effort the girls put forward,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said. “Flathead’s a great team. The girls dug deep and they played hard.”

Flathead hosts Helena High on Saturday with the Braves playing at 10 a.m. and Bravettes at noon.
