Glacier sweeps Big Sky, Flathead splits with Sentinel

MISSOULA — Four different players scored for the Glacier Wolfpack (3-2-2) as they beat Missoula Big Sky 5-1 on Thursday.

“It was a good positive result,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said.

“They played well and tried to conserve themselves a little.

Billiet said the game gave several JV and varsity players the opportunity to get some extra minutes.

Braden Nitschelm scored two goals and Sam Ells had three points (one goal, two assists).

“Their [Sentinel] keeper did great,” Billiet said.

“All in all a good result.”

Glacier has a crosstown game against Flathead at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Legends Stadium.

MISSOULA — After blowing out Missoula Big Sky on Wednesday, the Flathead Braves couldn’t find the back of the net against Missoula Sentinel.

It was a physical game, with 32 total penalties called. Sentinel had 22 as a team.

MISSOULA — A battle against Missoula Sentinel ended with a 0-0 tie for the Flathead Bravettes.

Flathead (3-3-1) was looking to rebound after a 3-2 loss to Big Sky on Tuesday.

“They [Sentinel] are a very physical team,” Flathead coach Bledy Doda said. “With a tie today we weren’t disappointed. The girls did great and I’m happy for the way they played.”

There were 27 total fouls in the game.

“A difficult field to play on,” Doda added.

Flathead’s next game is a 6 p.m. crosstown match against Glacier at Legends Stadium on Tuesday.

MISSOULA — The Glacier Wolfpack (6-0-1) defeated Big Sky 2-1.

“I’m so, so happy with the way the girls played,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said.

“It was another great team effort. Our girls are realy coming into their own against some great teams.”

Glacier trailed 1-0 at the half and scored goals at 53:00 and 63:00 to take the lead.
