The cause of a significant house fire west of Kalispell on Thursday remains under investigation.

According to information from West Valley Fire, firefighters were dispatched to the home on Stonecrest Drive at about 3:30 p.m. Seven minutes after receiving the call a Montana Highway Patrol officer arrived on scene and found the home was fully engulfed in flames.

Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to a garage, but a carport with three vehicles and the whole main floor of the home were a total loss. The basement sustained smoke and water damage. No one was injured in the blaze.

“Everyone on scene worked very hard to save what we could and it breaks our hearts that we couldn’t do more and a family lost a home,” West Valley Fire Marshal Mike Jones stated in a social media post on Friday.

Red Cross was notified about the displaced family, Jones noted.

Crews from Smith Valley Fire and South Kalispell Fire also responded mutual aid to the call.
