Saturday pitch splits for C-Falls, a sweep for Whitefish

LAUREL — Josie Windauer scored two goals for the Columbia Falls Wildkats in a 2-1 nonconference Class A victory over the Laurel Locomotives on Saturday.

An own goal tied the game with two minutes left in the second half but Windauer scored a minute later to win it.

Columbia Falls coach Thomas Clark was impressed by the team’s resilience.

“There are certain games that kind of define who you are,” Clark said. “This was one of those games. It’s a testament to these girls. They never give up. I’m just really proud of them.”

The Wildkats improved to 5-1 overall and is 2-0 in conference play.

CORVALLIS — Whitefish shut out Corvallis in a nonconference game.

Maya Lacey scored at 26:00, the only goal of the game.

“We dominated the game from start to finish,” Bulldogs coach Roland Benedict said.

Benedict added that Whitefish hit 61 percent of its shots on target. Out of 24 shots on goal, one went in.

“We had a rough day at the office finishing wise and made their goalkeeper look really good,” Benedict said.

“Made it really easy for Corvallis to stay in the game but a win is a win.”

Whitefish improves to 4-3 overall.

Stillwater Christian tied with Bonners Ferry after lobbing 10 shots on goal.

Madison Morken scored for Stillwater at 69:00.

“Bonners Ferry was very physical, but the young ladies were able to take their play up a notch and compete with them,” Stillwater coach JR Hemp said.

Stillwater (6-2-1) hosts Columbia Falls JV at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
