Flathead County fire officials are investigating a blaze of “questionable circumstances” after a fire destroyed a home in Evergreen early Monday morning.

According to Evergreen Fire Marshal Ben Covington, when firefighters arrived at the Evergreen Drive residence at about 2:20 a.m., flames were coming out the windows. Three people, including two adults and one teen-ager, were able to get out of the home before fire crews arrived.

“When we got there we weren’t sure if anyone was still inside so we had to look, but fortunately no one was inside,” Covington said.

No injuries were reported and crews were on scene for about four hours.

Covington said in addition to him investigating, the Flathead County Fire Investigation team is also working on the case.

Fire departments from Evergreen, Kalispell, Creston, South Kalispell and Whitefish were at the scene.

“It was a great turnout with all the crews that showed up,” Covington said.

Flathead County dispatch call logs indicate a caller believed a man had set the fire before leaving the scene at a high rate of speed.

The home is a total loss and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
