Peggy Darlene Hayek, 82

| April 15, 2020 1:00 AM

Peggy Darlene Hayek, 82, passed away on April 12, 2020, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.

Peggy was born Dec. 8, 1937, to Donald and Eileen Dodd of Somers. She grew up attending Somers grade school going on to graduate from Flathead County High School. In high school, Mom very much enjoyed playing in the marching band.

After graduation, she enlisted at the age of 18 in the U.S. Marine Corps, when she met the love of her life, Thomas Hayek. After three months of dating, Tom and Peggy married and soon they were blessed with three children Lon, Wendy, and Rusty. After 20 years of following Tom’s career in the military, they retired to Somers and were then blessed with another child named Doug.

Peggy was an avid bowler. She loved to compete in the sport with her best friend JoAnne to try and score a perfect game. She enjoyed playing the piano, always playing for her family at Christmas and on Sundays at the Methodist Church in Somers. One of Peg’s favorite jobs ever was cooking lunches for all of the grateful kids at Somers Middle School. Until her final days she would always talk about cooking there and all the stories the lunch lady would have to tell.

For many years, when the tones dropped, you would see Peggy down at the Somers Fire Hall making meals for all the firemen. She always liked when the Somers Reunion would come around so she could visit with all the locals because we all know that she has never met a stranger. While her kids were in school she went to beauty school so the local ladies could come up, get their hair done, and most importantly visit because we all know that her door was always open. She would always make time to go and watch her beloved grandkids’ activities.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; brother Chuck; her husband Tom of 52 years; grandchildren Brad and Amy; her great-grandchild Korbyn; and her son-in-law Bobby.

She is survived by her children Lon (Carla) Hayek, Wendy Kienas, Rusty (Barb) Hayek, and Doug (Melanie) Hayek; grandchildren Robert (Amber) Kienas, Mitch (Kathy) Kienas, Kacey (Shawn) Walker, Heather (Anthony) Garcia, Jimmy (Jen) Williams, TJ Hayek, Teagan Hayek, Nick (Amanda) Handford, Austin (Haley) Csikasz, Chris Handford, and Amber (Keith) Handford; 19 great-grandchildren, her sister Jerry Bunker; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A viewing will be held for Peggy at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home April 17, 2020, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home asks that while attending Peggy’s visitation that everyone abide by social distancing.
