Whitefish man who appeared ‘Deadliest Catch’ TV show dies

An online fundraiser has been launched to support the family of a deceased Whitefish man who appeared on a TV reality show.

According to legacy.com, 38-year-old Mahlon Reyes died July 27, 2020, after suffering a heart attack. He was described as a star on Discovery’s long-running series “Deadliest Catch,” which chronicles crabbing boats in the Bering Sea.

A post on the website also reported Reyes worked as a deckhand on the boats Seabrooke and Cape Caution and appeared in 14 episodes of the show. His wife announced that he was cremated and his ashes will be spread in the Bering Sea and in Montana’s Swan Range mountains.

The fundraiser is set up on gofundme.com. The beneficiary is listed as Heather Sullivan, his wife. They had four children.

More than $14,000 had been raised as of Tuesday.

Sullivan posted on social media Reyes appeared on KDBR radio station broadcasts for St. Jude radiothons.
