Twins lose lead, exit State A
LEWISTOWN – For the second straight day the Glacier Twins rallied only to lose the lead and the game – as well as a spot in the State A Legion tournament.
A three-run double by Jake Scully put the Bitterroot Bucs ahead in the fifth inning, and Andrew Scully’s RBI single in the sixth added an insurance run to their 5-3 loser-out victory over the Twins Saturday at Sparks Field.
The Twins, 35-21, lost the Friday late game in similar fashion: A five-run inning but them in front of Lewistown 6-3, but the host Redbirds ended up rallying for a 9-6 win.
On Saturday Glacier jumped in front 3-1 in the fourth. The inning began with a hit by pitch to Cade Morgan and a walk to Payton Davisson. Trenton Tyree followed with an RBI single and a wild pitch scored Davisson.
Mason Peters’ sacrifice fly brought in Tyree.
The Bucs came right back, taking advantage of a Glacier error, a single and a walk issued by Twins’ starter Zach Veneman. That set the stage for Jake Scully’s big hit.
Scully also got the win on the mound, giving up six hits and five walks and hiting two batters in six innings. He fanned six.
Veneman led off the seventh with a single against Zack Christopherson, but the next three Twins went down in order.
Veneman fanned eight in five innings pitched, allowing four hits, two walks and four runs.
Bitterroot (30-22), which lost to Glacier 6-5 in the Western A District title game this past Sunday, advanced to Saturday’s late game against Gallatin Valley. The Outlaws ousted Belgrade 6-2 earlier Saturday.
