Whitefish boys go low in Polson

POLSON – Billy Smith led a 1-through-5 finish by the Whitefish boys, who took the team title at a triangular golf tournament held at Polson Bay Golf Course Thursday.

Smith, a transfer from Texas, fired a two-under 70 to edge teammate Jonny Nix by two strokes. In third was defending State A medalist Cameron Kahle at 77; all five Whitefish boys broke 80. In sixth was Corvallis’ Luke Schlimgen at 80.

Blue Devils’ standout Macee Greenwood cruised to medalist honors on the girls’ side with a 78, 12 strokes ahead of Polson senior Ellie Thiel. Polson freshman Ashley Maki was third with a 94.

The Corvallis girls edged Polson in the team standings by two strokes; Whitefish’s score of 297 won the boys’ title by 59 strokes.
