Former Whitefish resident accused of violating parole
Drug charges in Bozeman have landed a former Whitefish resident in the Flathead County Jail.
Tyler Derek Holtet, 32, received two three-year deferred sentences in November 2017 after pleading guilty to felony burglary and theft charges.
He soon moved to Billings, then to Bozeman where alleged offenses this summer led to his probation officer reporting the violations and his placement in the county jail.
Court documents indicate Holtet was arrested in Bozeman June 29 for drug possession. The next day, he was charged with possession and driving without a license.
According to the document, Holtet allegedly admitted to his parole officer he had ingested THC and cocaine. Other information indicated he allegedly used methamphetamine.
Court records indicate Holtet burglarized a home, stole checks and a debit card before he wrote a total of 23 checks to various businesses in the Flathead Valley for $978. He used the debit card to make eight transactions totaling more than $1,990.
Holtet’s probation officer wrote in the violation report he had reminded him on more than one occasion of probation rules about changing residences, using illegal substances and contact with law officers.
“The defendant has also been directed on more than one occasion to find employment in which he isn’t paid under the table,” Probation Officer Tom Fulton wrote. “The defendant has had a real lack of focus when it comes to supervision and seems very content to live off other people.”
Holtet’s bail was set at $20,000 and his next court appearance is set for Thursday. Aug. 27.
