| February 7, 2020 4:00 AM

On Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, Darren Shane Mays of Kalispell, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, father and friend, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 23.

Darren was born on May 9, 1996, in Twin Falls, Idaho. Growing up, he developed a passion for skateboarding and would spend hours practicing with friends as well as teaching his younger brothers and cousins. He was so determined to master new tricks that he often returned home only after his board had broken in two.

He was known for his infectious smile, mischievous sense of humor and ability to make people laugh.

Darren was preceded in death by his grandmother, Kathy Fraser.

He is survived by his mother Christine Kately, stepfather Chopper Kately, sisters Katrina and Jennifer Mays, brothers Keidel, Dustie, Wyatt and Conner Kately, and Daniel Smith, his two young children, and many grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family too numerous to name but not forgotten.

At the time of his passing Darren resided in Butte, but called Kalispell home.

A candlelight ceremony will be held at Star Lane Bowling Alley in Butte on March 8 from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

A celebration of life is being planned for May 9 in or around Kalispell, at a location not yet determined.
