Polson edges C-Falls; Big Sky upsets Glacier

POLSON — Ryker Wenderoth scored 12 points as the Polson Pirates beat the Columbia Falls Wildcats in a Northwest A basketball game at Salish-Kootenai College on Saturday.

Trevor Lake added 10 points for Polson (9-6 overall, 6-2 league), who led 37-20 at the half. Columbia Falls (3-12, 2-5) mounted a comeback attempt in the fourth by outscoring Polson 27-18, but couldn’t erase the deficit.

Dillon Shipp led the Wildcats with 11 points. William Dyon scored 10.

MISSOULA – Tre Reed scored 13 points and the Missoula Big Sky Eagles quelled a Glacier rally to earn their first win of the season.

Drew Engellant scored 20 points for the Wolfpack (7-5, 4-5 in the Western AA), which trailed 39-30 midway through the third quarter.

Glacier rallied to tie the game at 50-all on a Weston Price 3-pointer with 4:00 left in the game, but Shawn Phelps converted a three-point play for Big Sky (1-13, 1-9) at the 3:42 mark.

The Eagles had the lead for good, pushing it to 58-51 on two Everett Fred’s two free throws with 1:54 left.

Price scored 16 for Glacier.

MISSOULA – Alex Germer had another big game with 32 points to lead Missoula Sentinel past Flathead.

Nobody reached double figures for the Braves, who were outscored 47-25 after halftime and fell to 3-9, 2-7 in the Western AA. Huntger Hickey and Cooper Smith scored nine each.

Tony Frohlich-Fair added 18 points for the Spartans (10-2, 7-2).
