Bigfork Playhouse Children's Theatre holds auditions for pirate wannabes
The Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre invites students in grades five through 12 to audition for the cast of the swashbuckling musical “The Lady Pirates of Captain Bree.”
Gangway, pirates of the Caribbean, here come the Lady Pirates of Captain Bree! When his crew jumps ship upon sighting the pirates in the distance, Sir Captain Jennings is left with a makeshift crew of motley prisoners and Fergus, a sailor who can’t swim, to protect his wealthy passengers, the Prescots, from the inevitable attack. Along with Captain Bree’s hearty crew of mean and nasty mates (and a couple of new recruits in training who keep forgetting to be rough and tough), the lady pirates take over the defenseless Kayla May where you’re in for swashbuckling musical comedy.
Auditions will be held at the Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre Afterschool Arts Center, located at 833 Grand Ave., on Tuesday, Feb. 18, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for fifth through seventh grades; and 6 to 8 p.m. for eighth through 12th grades.
This production calls for a large cast; 11 female features, seven male features and a medium chorus of mean and nasty sea-swabs. It costs nothing to audition. There is a $50 participation fee if you are cast in the show. Prepare a 30-second monologue or short selection from another play or book, and plan to learn and sing something for us at the audition. Don’t worry if you don’t have experience, materials will be available at the theater for you. Wear comfortable shoes that you can move around the stage in ... “if you don’t, we’ll make you ‘walk the plank.”
Not interested in stage work but would like to be involved? Help with the technical parts — building sets, props, costumes, lights and sound — are needed. Parental and student assistance is welcome.
