Kalispell to host open house on potential utility rate increases

| February 18, 2020 2:00 AM

The Kalispell City Council will hold an open House about potential utility rate increases from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday (today) in the Kalispell City Council chambers, 201 First Ave. E.

The council is considering a seven-year increase for sewer and water rates that would raise the average customer’s sewer bill $13 per month the first year and about $3 per month every year after until 2025. The average water rate would increase about $3 per month every year until 2025.

The city is also looking at changes to water and wastewater impact fees.

“The money raised from rate increases would help the city continue to provide safe and reliable water, and help guarantee collection and ongoing treatment of sewage,” a press release stated. “Rates also help pay for new source development such as mains, wells and tanks to meet current and future water demands, and a metering system to provide reliable usage and a new customer portal to view real-time usage and leak alerts. Rates also support personnel to keep our facilities and services running 24/7.”

Written comments may also be submitted for council consideration via email to citycouncil@kalispell.com or by mail to Attn: City Clerk, PO Box 1997, Kalispell, MT 59903.
