Lady Lions bound for 7B championship game

BIGFORK ­— The Eureka Lions avenged their two regular season losses to the Bigfork Valkyries by defeating them 42-39 in the girls District 7B semifinals at Bigfork High School on Friday, which earned Eureka a berth to the championship today.

Eureka’s 11-point lead in the third quarter was erased in part by Bigfork’s Emma Berreth, who scored three triples.

Bigfork led entering the fourth but Eureka answered with a Katie Schmidt triple for the lead and then Megan Hanson’s and one with eight seconds left.

Schmidt led the Lions with 12 points. Hanson finished with 11 points, five rebounds and five assists. Maggie Graves added five points and 10 boards.

For Bigfork, Berreth scored 15 and Ansley Edgerton had 10.

Eureka will play Thompson Falls in the 7B championship today, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Libby High School.

Bigfork is against Mission in the consolation game at 2:30 p.m.

The Eureka boys face Mission at 4 p.m. in the championship and the Bigfork boys have Thompson Falls at 1 p.m. in a consolation game.

LIBBY ­— Whitefish closed out the regular season with a win over their Northwest A opponent Libby Loggers.

Whitefish (5-13 overall, 4-6 conference) led 17-11 at the half.

Gracie Smyley scored 13 points including three triples in the first half.

Mikenna Ells added eight.

For Libby (4-14, 2-8), Syd Grier led with eight points and Mackenzie Proffitt scored seven.

LIBBY — The Whitefish Bulldogs edged the Libby Loggers in overtime to finish out the regular season.

Things were close in the first half — Whitefish led 25-22. The Bulldogs started to pull away after that, leading 40-25 after three but a Libby scoring surge sent the game to overtime.

Justin Conklin scored 15 for Whitefish (7-11 overall, 3-7 conference) including three triples. Bodie Smith added 11.

For Libby (12-6, 6-4), Keith Johnson scored 15 and went 5 for 7 at the free-throw line.

Chandler Bower scored 13, including three triples.
