For the third consecutive year, Glacier High School Speech and Debate team won the Conway Classic at Gonzaga University in Washington with 193 overall points.

This year Glacier had to hold off crosstown rival Flathead for the victory. It was Flathead’s first appearance at the tournament since 2007. Glacier held of Flathead 288-153 in overall points for the title.

The tournament featured about 29 teams from eight states according to Glacier head coach Greg Adkins.

“What a great weekend for our team,” Adkins said. “It was fun to go head-to-head with Gonzaga in a tournament that used a different scoring system and slightly different rules and events. Our kids really competed well, and we are getting closer to having the depth and balance we are striving for.”

Flathead head coach Shannon O’Donnell added, “The Flathead kids did very well, finishing second overall to Glacier, and had a great time trying the very different competition format.”

Glacier and Flathead will compete this upcoming weekend in Butte in the final invitational before the State AA Tournament in Bozeman at the end of the month.
