There were no injuries in a Wednesday evening fire on Fourth Avenue East in Kalispell, Kalispell fire officials said.

Kalispell Fire Department responded at 7:12 p.m. to 1204 Fourth Ave. E. after receiving notification via a 911 call of smoke inside a residence.

Kalispell Fire Chief Dave Dedman said seven people, including one child, were living in the residence, which was converted into separate living areas for multiple rental occupants.

“They got out of the home, then called 911,” Dedman said.

The first fire crews reported there was smoke and fire coming from the structure and a first-alarm structure fire dispatch was immediately requested, the department said in a press release.

“Upon further size-up it was recognized that additional man power was to be needed due to structural considerations and also the freezing conditions present, and a second alarm was requested and initiated,” the release stated.

Also assisting were Evergreen, South Kalispell, Smith Valley, Whitefish, Bad Rock fire departments and Flathead Electric Cooperative.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Montana and Idaho Red Cross Communications Director Matt Ochsner said local volunteer disaster responders were going to meet with the residents Friday to determine what they needed.
