Glacier, Flathead wrestling with winners at Rocky

MISSOULA — Glacier Wolfpack and Flathead Braves wrestling teams finished out the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic at Sentinel High School in Missoula with several title winners and runners-up.

Glacier’s Teegan Vasquez won at 126 pounds, winning a 10-9 decision over Carter Schmidt of Belgrade in the first place match.

“Really excited for Teegan and proud of how he battled through a ton of adversity in his finals match to get a takedown to close it out was pretty special,” Glacier coach Ross Dankers said. “His hard work is paying off.”

Josh Melton of Glacier lost in the 103 semifinal but wrestled his way into a fifth-place finish.

Also placing fifth was Caedon Seymour (205).

Camryn Vergeront (285) fought back to place sixth after a semifinal loss.

Flathead’s Fin Nadeau (145) won a tight 5-4 decision over Brock Rodriguez of Bozeman.

Paxton Boyce was defeated in the 182 championship by Noah Kovick of Helena Capital.

Zaybin Stewart (205) placed fourth, as was Cade Troupe (126), Brendan Barnes (138), and Noah Poe-Hatten (152).

Asher Kemppainen (132) was fifth.

“Total team effort for the Brave Brawlers this weekend placing 9 wrestlers, putting three in the finals, and one champion at the Rocky Mountain Classic,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said. This Braves team just keeps on surprising us. These boys just love to compete and are Brawling for 6 minutes.”

Columbia Falls’ Justin Windauer (113) placed fourth.

Libby’s Cody Crace was sixth at 160 pounds.

Kedrick Baker (126) of Polson finished sixth.

Flathead placed second overall with 198 points, behind Great Falls with 213.

Glacier placed 11th.
