Valley Voices Choir tunes in to spring season

| January 23, 2020 4:00 AM

The Valley Voices Community Choir begins its spring season Monday, Jan. 27, at 5:30 p.m. in the choir room of Flathead High School. Anyone who likes to sing is welcome.

Allyson Kuechmann has been directing the Valley Voices for 20 years.

“You don’t last that long as a director unless you’re really good,” choir member David Vale said. “Allyson not only leads and directs us, she entertains and inspires us every week.”

The program is new each season and the music is selected by a committee from the choir.

“To make it onto our program, the music has to be something that will delight our audiences and also something that we are excited to sing,” choir president Rosella Thompson said. “This season we have a good selection of songs that meet both criteria.”

The choir, composed of over 80 members, prides itself on being a community choir, open without audition to everyone who wants to sing.

“I firmly believe that everyone who can speak and hear can also learn to sing,” Kuechmann said.

If you’d like to be part of the Valley Voices Community Choir, come to the Flathead High School choir room at 5:30 p.m. Monday. (Regular rehearsals will be Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m.) There is a $45 fee to cover music and other expenses.

“But no one should let the cost keep them from singing,” treasurer Betty Jordan said. “If you want to sing but can’t afford the membership fee, we won’t let the fee be a problem.”
