Douglas M. Flanagin, 90

Douglas M. Flanagin, age 90, passed away July 11, 2020. Doug had spent the past several years of his life working with his son Neil at 93 Wood Products in Kalispell. He died peacefully at Neil’s home with family by his side.

Doug, son of Charles Neil and Gertrude (Burnett) Flanagin, was born on March 6, 1930. He grew up on the family farm south of Stevensville where he formed a work ethic that lasted a lifetime. After graduating from Stevensville High School in l948, he joined the Air Force, serving the next four years with assignments in the U.S. and Germany. He was honorably discharged in June 1952.

Shortly after returning to Montana, he renewed a relationship with Marjorie Little, a high school friend from Hamilton, and they were married in 1953. In their 20 years together, they were blessed with five children of whom he was most proud, Steve, Neil, Janet, Jill and Julienne. He was later married and divorced from Pamela Pierce.

Doug attended the University of Montana for one year, and then in 1955 started a sales career at H.O. Bell Ford in Missoula. After 10 years in the automobile business, he started a successful 20-year career in real estate sales, being instrumental in several significant building projects of that period. He later moved to Portland, Oregon, where he retired after 10 years of selling equipment for WSCO Petroleum in Oregon, Washington, and Alaska.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Neil and Gertrude; his brother, Neil; and his sister, Betty J. “Jackie” Lauderback.

He is survived by his five children, Steve (Yen) Flanagin, Sammamish, Washington; Neil (Brenda) Flanagin, Somers; Janet (Ric) Larsen, Lake Oswego, Oregon; Jill Flanagin (Wendy), Everett, Washington; and Julienne Flanagin, New York, New York; his grandsons, Erin and Michael Flanagin and Tyler and Connor Larsen; and his nephews and nieces, Michael and Susan Flanagin, Tom Lauderback, and Patty Lauderback Deleski.

Per Doug’s wishes, no formal services are being held.
