A Hungry Horse man is facing a charge of elder abuse after authorities said he slapped his 79-year-old father in the face during a recent dispute.

Darrell Jay Goodwin, 57, was booked into the Flathead County Detention Center May 28. He was released June 1 on his own recognizance.

Acc-ording to the charging document, deputies from the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Hungry Horse residence May 27 and spoke with the father, who said his son, Goodwin, slapped him in the face.

Deputies took Goodwin into custody. Later, the victim’s daughter called deputies and told them there was a surveillance camera in the home.

When deputies watched the video, they allegedly saw a profane tirade by Goodwin at his father. The victim also had a audio recording on his phone in which Goodwin allegedly was heard screaming at his dad and stating “I’ll send you to (profanity) God right now.”

According to deputies, the recording also included what sounded like someone being hit and the father stating “quit hitting me” and “quit kicking me.”
