Emma Anderson had 16 kills and three blocks Tuesday, helping the Glacier Wolfpack down Butte in four sets in a State AA first-round volleyball match at the Wolf Den.

Kynzie Mohl added 10 kills and four aces for the Wolfpack (9-4), which beat the Bulldogs for the third time this season, 25-17, 22-25, 25-16, 25-20.

“I thought we battled through some rough patches,” Glacier coach Christy Harkins said. “Butte came ready to play, and played aggressively. I thought the girls responded well – by the third set they were playing pretty well.”

Kaylee Fritz had 41 assists and 12 digs for Glacier, while Morgan Hernandez had 31 digs. The Wolfpack, seeded fourth in the West, now heads to the Eastern AA’s top seed, Great Falls Russell on Saturday. Match time has yet to be announced.

Kennedie McMahon had eight kills to lead Butte (5-9).

Savanna Sterck had nine kills and a pair of blocks to lead Flathead, which ended up 1-13 on the shortened season under first-year coach Emily Russell.

“I’m very, very proud of my team,” Russell said after the 25-18, 25-19, 26-4 loss. “Tonight we definitely played our best match of the year. Unfortunately it wasn’t the way we wanted to finish. Every set got closer and closer and we thought we had the third one.”

Flathead boasted just two seniors: Maddi Chavez (three aces Tuesday) and Mayson Moore (12 digs).

“I’m proud of both of them for being leaders on our team and competing every time they stepped on the court,” Russell said.
