Whitefish incident leads to assault charge
A late night dispute in Whitefish ultimately resulted in criminal charges against a Flathead Valley man.
Kevon Mitchell Cole is facing a felony charge of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief after he allegedly choked a man with his bare hands.
According to charging documents, at about 1:39 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, Whitefish Police received a report of a disturbance at a Denver Avenue residence and an officer spoke with both victims.
A man said he was called by a woman, who said she was having a problem with Cole. The man said he went home to talk to Cole and Cole then allegedly began to strangle him before releasing him.
The man then went into the woman’s bedroom, Cole followed and grabbed the man by the neck. Cole allegedly had a knife in his hand while he choked the man.
The investigating officer said the man became emotional as he described the incident. When the officer spoke with the woman, she said she saw Cole grab the man by the neck and also saw a knife. She also said Cole broke her coffee table and TV.
Cole posted bond and was released from the Flathead County Detention Center. His arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19.
