Glacier girls shut out unbeaten Sentinel in Western AA soccer

Reagan Brisendine scored the only goal for the Glacier Wolfpack in a 1-0 shutout of unbeaten Missoula Sentinel in Western AA girls soccer at Glacier High School on Thursday.

After Brisendine’s goal in the 6th minute, the Wolfpack protected the lead to improve to 9-3.

Sentinel has played two fewer games than Glacier and falls to 6-1-3.

“I think it was the best all around team effort that we’ve had with this group of girls,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said. “For us to play as well as we did against a team of that caliber it is huge.”

Byrd singled out Ady Powell as a significant part of the Wolfpack’s victory. “She won a lot of battles for us today,” he said.

Glacier has a week off before facing Missoula Hellgate on Oct. 8.

Columbia Falls 14, Polson 4

POLSON — Maddie Robison broke the Columbia Falls single game school record by scoring seven goals for the Wildkats as they coasted 14-4 past Polson.

Cheyanne Johnston-Heinz scored a hat trick in the first half. Hope McAtee scored two goals and had four assists.

“So proud of our team’s effort,” Wildkats coach Thomas Clark said. “We came out incredibly strong in the second half after a tough first half defensively. … Individually what can you say about Maddie Robison, she is one of the most dangerous players I’ve ever seen.”

The Wildkats are 7-1-0 overall and 4-1-0 in Northwestern A. Polson falls to 1-6-0 and 1-4-0.

Columbia Falls 3, Polson 0

POLSON — Columbia Wildcats captain Jason Albin scored two goals and had one assist in a 3-0 Northwestern A boys soccer shutout of Polson on Thursday.

Albin scored in the 14th and 74th minutes and assisted one Kai Golan’s tally in the 27th minute.

The Wildcats are neck and neck with Whitefish in the conference at 7-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in conference play. Polson falls to 1-5-1 and 1-3-1.

“This was a huge one for us,” Wildcats coach O’Brien Byrd said. “I’m happy with our captain Jason Albin, he had a touch on every goal … We need to improve our finish for these next games to come.”

Columbia Falls will play Whitefish at 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith Fields.

Missoula Sentinel 0

Goaltender John Pyron and the Glacier Wolfpack posted their fifth consecutive shutout with a 4-0 Western AA win over Missoula Sentinel.

Pyron made four saves for the Wolfpack, who is now 8-2-2.

Braden Nitschelm scored two goals and Parker Creer checked in with a goal and an assist.

“We played a complete game,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said. “We were very dangerous in the attack. Things are coming together for us at a good time.”

Glacier’s next game is at the unbeaten Missoula Hellgate next Thursday.

MISSOULA — The Flathead Braves tied Missoula Big Sky 2-2 in Western AA boys soccer Thursday.

Tim Weymouth tied the game before the half with a goal at 31:00.

Big Sky’s Wyatt Stout scored his second of the game to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead at 55:00.

In the 64th minute, Ethan Vandenbosch tied the game for Flathead (2-9-1).
