Whitefish boys blank Polson; Hellgate sweeps Glacier

WHITEFISH — The Whitefish Bulldogs boys soccer team kept on rolling with a 6-0 Northern A win over the Polson Pirates at Smith Fields on Thursday.

Brandon Mendoza had two tallies for the Bulldogs (9-0-1 overall, 6-0-1 league) and Marvin Kimera checked in with two goals and an assist.

“A great way to celebrate our seniors, grateful to Polson boys for coming up despite the hard times of the virus at their school,” Whitefish coach John Lacey said. w

Polson’s girls team was forced to cancel their game Thursday in Whitefish due to COVID-19 quarantine. Polson’s boys team was unaffected.

The Polson boys are 2-7-1 and 2-5-1.

MISSOULA — Hellgate’s Carmen Anderson scored a late goal against the Glacier Wolfpack girls soccer team to give the Knights a 2-1 Western AA win.

Madison Becker tied the game in the 58th minute off an assist by Emily Cleveland.

“I think it was really a tale of two halves,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said. “Hellgate is a spectacular team … We chased them the whole first half. I’m proud of the girls and how they played.”

Anderson scored the go-ahead goal in the 70th minute. Lucia Baker scored Hellgate’s first goal.

Hellgate (10-3) owns first place in Western AA (for now), but Glacier (9-4) has a chance to take back that lead with a win against Butte today at 3 p.m.

MISSOULA — The Western AA powerhouse Hellgate Knights hung on to their undefeated streak with a 3-1 Western AA win over the Glacier Wolfpack.

Parker Creer gave the Wolfpack (8-3-2) a 1-0 lead that they took into the second half before Hellgate sprang into action with three unanswered goals.

‘I’m proud of the guys, playing against a team that has only given up one tie all season,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said. “We continue to play well, just couldn’t finish one in the second half. We showed that we can play at that level.”

Glacier’s last game of the regular season is at 1 p.m. today in Butte.

The first round of Western AA playoffs begins Tuesday.
