Benn, Bigfork beat Class A Polson in ad hoc meeting

POLSON — Cormac Benn rushed for five touchdowns as the Class B Bigfork Vikings beat Class A opponent Polson Pirates 54-40 on Friday.

Polson (3-4) was scheduled to play Stevensville but the school shut down all activities due to coronavirus concerns. Likewise for Anaconda, who would have been Bigfork’s opponent. That game is rescheduled for Oct. 16.

Benn rushed 38 times for 381 yards, accounting for most of the Vikings’ total offense (664 yards), which was all on the ground.

Polson took the opposite approach, electing to go to the air.

Quarterback Jarrett Wilson had 41 completions for 438 yards and six touchdowns. His longest TD pass was 23 yards to Boston Goode in the fourth quarter.

Of the Pirates’ 509 total yards, just 71 were rushing.

Bigfork (5-2) led 32-20 at the half off two 1-yard and a 9-yard run by Benn and a 2-yard score by Levi Taylor. The Vikings outscored the Pirates 22-20 the rest of the way.

Benn added two more runs (5 and 47 yards) in the second half, followed by a 4-yard TD run by Taylor.

Wilson threw for three more scores in the back half of the game to three different receivers: Robert Perez, Goode, and Colton Graham.

Both teams had just one turnover.
