Soccer: Wolfpack boys shut out Capital; Bravettes, Glacier girls win

HELENA – Junior Zane Elliott scored a hat trick and the Glacier Wolfpack swamped Helena Capital 4-0 in Western AA boys’ soccer Saturday.

Elliott’s goals came in the 35th, 75th and 78th minutes for Glacier, which outshot the Bruins 16-3. Parker Creer gave the Wolfpack (2-1-1) the lead for good with his goal off a Braden Nitschelm assist in the 24 th minute. Nitschelm had two assists. John Pyron got the shutout at keeper.

“We played really well,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said. “We contintue to improve each game in all facets. It was a good well-balanced game and really fun first road trip of the year – and a nice bounce-back from a hard-fought tie with Helena High on Thursday.”

Glacier girls 3, Capital 2

HELENA – Madison Becker scored two goals, including the game-winner with the 70th minute, in Glacier’s come-from-behind win over Capital.

Emily Cleveland’s goal off an assist by Becker knotted the game at 2-2 in the 48th minute, after Capital – which was outshot 21-4 – took a 2-1 lead late in the first half on a penalty kick. Becker’s game-winner was assisted by Kenzie Williams.

“We fell behind on a very unfortunate penalty kick,” Wolfpack coach Brenden Byrd said after his team improved to 3-1. “Capital made us work for it. But we found a way to get back in the win column, so that was great.”

Flathead girls 3, Helena 2

HELENA -- Skyleigh Thompson’s two second-half goals rallied the Flathead Bravettes past Helena High, which built a 2-0 lead early in the game.

Tessa Smith, who scored Flathead’s first goal, set up Thompson’s first goal in the 43rd minute. In the 65th minute Thompson scored off an assist from Ellie Hawes.

“Starting the game behind two goals in the first 10 minutes, it never upset us,” Flathead coach Bledy Doda said. “We continued to play our game. This team dominated possession and the goals came naturally.”
