WHITEFISH — Freshman Lilli Rumsey Eash broke the tape first and led the Flathead Bravettes to the girls’ title at the Stumptown Triangular Tuesday.

What is usually a bigger meet was split into two – the Stumptown and Whitefish Invitational. Defending State A champion Columbia Falls took the boys Stumptown title in impressive fashion, while Whitefish freshman Mason Genovese was the individual champ.

Class AA Flathead finished 1-2-4-5-7 to score 19 points to 42 for Columbia Falls on the girls’ side.

A host of runners set season or personal bests, including Rumsey Eash, who finished in 19 minutes, 14 seconds – the fifth-best time in AA.

Flathead teammate Madelaine Jellison (second at 19:34.29) also set a season best, as did Bravettes Tori Noland-Gillespie (fifth) and Nora Iams (ninth).

Lara Erickson of Columbia Falls was third and also owns the third-best time in Class A – 19:47.1. Wildkats Hannah and Ally Sempf, Siri Erickson and Alyssa Blankenship all set personal bests as well; the Sempf sisters finished 6-8.

Seth Umbriaca, who ran a season-best 17:39.7 Tuesday, led a 2-3-5-6-8 finish for the Wildcat boys. Columbia Falls had 24 points to 49 for Whitefish. Flathead had 50 and was led by Reily Johnson, who finished fourth while running his best time of 2020.

In the non-Stumptown, invitational meet Eureka’s boys edged Ronan 31-34 and the Polson girls finished 1-4-5-7-9 to take home the title.

The boys’ race was won by Ronan’s Brant Heiner, who lowered his Class A-best time to 16 minutes, 6.09 seconds – he ran 16:25.1 five days before, in Thompson Falls.

Eureka’s Chaidh Lochridge finished second at 17:40.53. The Lions’ Kyle Durden (seventh) and Jacob Buckingham (ninth) ran their best times this season. So did Polson’s Ryan Dupuis, who finished sixth.

Girls’ winner Abigail Sherwood of Frenchtown ran her best time, 21:33.60, which ranks 23rd among Class A runners. Polson’s Karli Owens and Halle Heninger also ran their best times, while Ronan’s Olivia Heiner set her PR at 22:12.93.
