The Flathead track team got out fast Friday, especially the girls, and swept Missoula Hellgate in a Western AA track and field dual at Legends Stadium.

The boys won 82-59 and the Bravettes prevailed 99-46 over the Knights.

The girls had a bunch of excellent marks, starting with the Bravettes’ Hannah Perrin. She ran the 800 in 2 minutes. 21.33 seconds — the fastest time in the state regardless of class. Likewise Hellgate’s Abby Kendrick was second in the race and now second in the state rankings at 2:23.44.

Flathead also won both girls relays, running the fourth-best time in the state at 51.14 in the short relay and the state’s best (4:15.56) in the four-by-400.

Other top girls’ marks came in the open 400, where Cerise Lee (61.27 seconds) and Tori Noland-Gillespie (61.99) went 1-2 for Flathead. They currently rank 5-6 in the state in that event.

Sage Brooks of Hellgate won the 1,600 in a very fast time of 5:20.38; Perrin didn’t run that race but Lilli Rumsey Eash did, taking second at 5:35.87. That ranks ninth in the state.

Neither Perrin, who ranks first overall, nor Rumsey Eash, who sits fourth, ran the 3,200 Friday.

Flathead’s Lily Tanko won the 300 hurdles in 48.80, putting her in the top 10 in the state;

Rebecca Eacker swept the shot put and discus and had a top-10 mark (111-8) in the latter.

Hellgate’s Alix Mund and Flathead’s Mia Stephan (34-3.5) and Tessa Smith all had top marks in the triple jump.

Flathead racked up the points in the boys’ sprints — Brody Thornsberry swept the 100 and 200 — and clocked among the state’s fastest times in the 1,600-meter relay: 3:40.79.

The Braves’ other top mark came from Timothy Weymouth, who won the pole vault at a height of 13 feet. He’s among five vaulters to clear that height, and only three have gone higher so far this season.

Flathead teammate Dylan Zink swept the long and triple jumps.

Hellgate’s distance crew was as usual, solid. Ignatius Fitzgerald’s time of 4:31.66 in the 1,600 was unofficially the fastest in the state. Teammate Miles Colescott was second at 4:36.54.

Finneus Colescott’s 10:31.11 in the 3,200 was the state’s eighth-best.

Renn Stearns ran among the fastest 800 times for Hellgate, 2:06.14.
