Fleet outfield to lead Libby
The Libby Loggers went 19-22 a year ago, and an experienced outfield could mean a tick up for the A Legion squad this summer.
“The foundation is our outfield,” veteran coach Kelly Morford said, referring to Caden Williams, Tripp Zhang and Tucker Masters. “I’d put those three up against any outfield in the state. We’re very solid out there.”
The question, Morford allows, is the infield. Hunter Hoover, Dylan Buckner, Cy Williams and Kiye Jenkins will mix in up the middle (second and shortstop), somebody will have to fill in when Williams, a tall lefty No. 1 pitcher, is on the mound.
“Zane Browne had some really good innings for us last year,” Morford added. “After that, it’s going to be a lot of young guys that are going to have to throw strikes. And hopefully our defense is going to back us up.”
Twenty-two players fill the A and B rosters in Libby — not bad numbers, Morford feels. The list includes another youngster at catcher: Rusty Gillespie.
“Add that to the list of spots that are going to have new faces,” Morford said. “We have a lot of young guys but there’s a lot of potential.”
The A Loggers start April 28 in Whitefish against the Glacier Twins.
