Bulldogs, Cats win Whitefish triangular

WHITEFISH — Hailey Ells lowered her personal best in the 100-meter hurdles, and the Bulldogs won both girls’ relays on the way to Whitefish taking the team title at a triangular meet Tuesday.

Ells’ time of 16.98 seconds won the high hurdles and helped Whitefish to 87 points. Columbia Falls, getting two wins from Rebekah Walker (300 hurdles and pole vault), was next at 71. Libby, which saw Rylee Boltz run a very fast 400, had 20.

Columbia Falls won the boys’ team title with 72 points, to 64.5 for Whitefish.

Boltz, who also won the long jump Tuesday, clipped through the 400 in 60.59. That’s unofficially second only to the 59.43 run by Whitefish’s Mikenna Ells in Class A. Ells won the 200 Tuesday.

The Wildkats got another top time from Isabelle Cooke, who won the 800 in 2:28.04.

On the boys’ side Libby’s Jay Beagle ran his season best in the 200, 22.89, and also won the 100 in 11.29 as well as the javelin.

Whitefish’s Jacob Henson ran a top-10 time in the 3,200: 10:37.75.

Fast marks reached at Top 8 ABC

EUREKA — Mission’s Sydney Brander was among several top performers at the Top 8 ABC meet held here Tuesday, garnering four individual wins.

Brander ran the 100 meters in 13.10 seconds — the third-best time in Class B so far this season — and also won the 200. Brander then swept the long and triple jumps, and marked 16 feet, 3.5 inches in the long jump, which sits fifth in her class.

On the boys side, Mission’s Layne Spidel edged Eureka’s Joshua Butts by .01 in the 200; Spidel (25.25) and Butts now sit 3-4 in the event for Class B. Spidel also won the 400.

Thompson Falls distance runner Justin Morgan ran the fastest time in Class B for the 3,200 (winning 10:05.50) and second-fasted 1,600 (4:40.70; Browning’s Jeremy Bockus won in 4:38.4).

Right behind Morgan in both events is Mission’s Andrew Rush, who ran the 3,200 in 10:14.64 Tuesday.

The Bluehawks’ Cody Burk edged up his personal best in the javelin to 143-3.

Thompson Falls thrower Jody Detlaff moved into the B Top 10 in both the girls’ shot put (32 feet, 3 inches) and discus (107-11).

Team scores were unavailable. Kyle Lawson of Hot Springs swept the boys’ hurdles, and ran the fourth-fasted 110 hurdles (17.53) this spring.

Noxon’s Cad VanVleet won the shot put and discus, and the Red Devils’ MacKenzie Morgan won the girls’ 800 and 1,600.
