Mountain snow possible this weekend
Summer snow is a possibility for the higher elevations of Northwest Montana as a dramatic shift in weather is expected this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Missoula, a low-pressure system will drop out of Canada late Saturday, bringing cooler temperatures and widespread precipitation to the region.
Northwest Montana, particularly Glacier National Park, the Flathead National Forest and the Swan Range, will benefit from most of the rainfall. The highest peaks along the Continental Divide above 7,500 feet may even see a dusting of snow, along with strong, gusty winds of up to 50 mph.
Hikers and other backcountry recreationists should be prepared for raw conditions this weekend with temperatures in the 40s and 50s.
Thermometers in the Flathead Valley will struggle to hit the upper 60s Sunday and Monday with rain likely.
