Nix, Smith lead Bulldogs to win at Whitefish Invitational
WHITEFISH — Johnny Nix shot a solid 68 and Billy Smith a 71 as the Whitefish boys golf team rolled to a 15-shot victory Monday in the Whitefish Invitational at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.
Nix claimed medalist honors and Smith was second.
“Anytime you break 300 in a high school tournament, you know your team put up some solid numbers,” said Whitefish coach Tait Rocksund.
The Polson boys, behind Carson Hupka (73) and Hunter Emerson (74), took second.
On the girls side, the Pirates outpaced second place Whitefish by 29 shots. Polson had three girls in the top four, led by Kylee Seifert, second at 93, Ashley Maki, third at 95, and Clare Konen, fourth at 95.
Frenchtown’s Katie Lewis blew away the field with an 82.
Anyah Cripe shot a 96 to lead second-place Whitefish.
“I am very excited about the progress our girls’ team is making. Overall, I feel like today was a success. It was good to see a full driving range and golfer actually able to warm up before the round after last year’s COVID rules. ” Rocksund said.
