Whitefish soccer sweeps Frenchtown teams in opener
WHITEFISH — Emma Barron and Sophie Saurey each scored hat tricks for the Whitefish Bulldogs in their Saturday season opener at Smith Fields, a 10-0 rout of Frenchtown in Northwest A soccer.
“It was a good first game for us to get the jitters out,” coach Rolan Benedict said. “It was really good, from the first half to second half we improved and showed our depth.”
Six different players scored for the Bulldogs. Sadie Olson had three assists, and Saurey and Barron each had an assist.
“I’m pleased with our performance but there’s a lot of room to grow,” Benedict said. “We’re not where we need to be for the rest of the season.”
The Bulldogs travel to Hamilton Friday for a 4 p.m. game.

WHITEFISH — Gabe Menicke scored four goals for Whitefish in a 9-1 trouncing of the Frenchtown Broncs.
The Bulldogs led 4-0 at the half on a goal by Collin Lyman and a hat trick by Menicke. Lyman scored again in the second half. Chase Sabin had three assists, and Joe Brandt had a goal and an assist.
Frenchtown’s Tyler DiMaggio scored the Broncs’ lone goal in the 49th minute.
Whitefish plays again Friday at 6 p.m. in Hamilton.
