Creston Auction canceled for a second year

| February 4, 2021 9:50 AM

The 2021 Creston Auction will not be held again this year, the Creston Fire Fighters Association announced Thursday.

COVID-19 has brought too many complications and challenges as the association and Creston Fire’s emergency responders work to keep our community safe, the association said. With several thousand participants and five separate auctions occurring simultaneously in a fairly confined area, it has been deemed impossible to keep any degree of adequate group and personal distancing. The association also does not want to expose the nearly 200 volunteers from the community who make the event happen. This cancellation is for the Sunday equipment sale as well.

Plans are in place to be back with a bigger and better Creston Auction the first weekend of April 2022. Get it on your calendar; it promises to be a great experience.

The cancellation of two consecutive Creston Auction weekends is unprecedented and has a significant impact on Creston Fire, its nonprofit support organization, and ultimately plans for the construction of the Creston Fire Station 251 replacement facility.

The organization will be holding its second Pork Shoulder BBQ Fundraiser (tentatively scheduled for May 2021) and annual Soup for Supper fundraiser in October. Although these are successful, well-attended and supported events, they do not replace the Creston Auction in either financial benefit or community social interaction.

The development of plans for replacing Station 251 to better serve the community is continuing. To donate to this great cause, visit www.crestonfire.org
