Missoula Sentinel’s Brooke Stayner scored 22 points, 17 after halftime, to help the Spartans down Glacier 58-51 for a Western AA girls’ basketball victory Thursday.

Stayner scored 10 third-quarter points as the Spartans built a 40-36 lead, and the Wolfpack (5-4) couldn’t quite catch them. The visitors hit 9 of 17 free throws in the fourth period and improved to 5-3.

“We were leading at half and it was back and forth the second half,” Glacier coach Amanda Cram said. “Defensively we broke down late, and missed a few rebounds we needed to have. “Unfortunately we did not knock down our free throws and they did.”

Challis Westwater added 12 points for Sentinel, which was 19 of 27 at the line to 7-for-15 for Glacier. Ellie Keller led the Wolfpack with 13 points and Emma Anderson added 12.
